A currency option is a contract giving the option holder the right but not the obligation to deliver or take delivery of a specific currency at a set price on or before the contract's expiration date.

Currency options can be used as hedges against adverse changes in exchange rates for businesses doing cross currency transactions.

Currency options can also be used to speculate on changes in currency exchange rates.
