This is a very tough question without a calculator, but that's not the point.
The whole point of brain teaser questions is to see how you think.
Take out a piece a paper and speak your thoughts out loud as you go.
Three squared is nine and two squared is four, so the answer has to be between two and four.
Let's cut the possibilities in half. What's 2.5 squared?
2.5 squared is equal to 2.5 times a half, which is 1.25, plus 2.5 times two, which is 5. That gives us 6.25. We're close.
Let's try 2.6. 2.6 squared would be the same as 26 squared moving two decimal places over. 26 times 6 is 156. 26 times two adding a decimal place is 520. 520 plus 156 is 676. Moving the decimal gives us 6.76.
That's pretty close. I would say the square root of 7 is about 2.65.
You're not expected to come up with the right answer, but you should show that you have a logical thought process to come up with a solution.
Brain teasers may take a little while to answer, but try not to spend more than a few minutes.
If you see yourself starting to take too long, just explain your overall logic for finding a solution rather than continuing in detail.
