M1 is a measure of the money supply that includes the total of all physical currency part of bank reserves (also refered to as M0) plus the amount in demand accounts such as checking or "current" accounts.In other words, M1 is money that is in the form of physical cash or can quickly be converted into physical cash or be used to make purchases.
